RWJBarnabas Health and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center are seeking a clinical leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine in Newark, NJ.
RWJBarnabas Health, the largest integrated healthcare system in New Jersey, is currently seeking a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician to serve as the Chair in the Emergency Medicine Department at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. This is a great opportunity for an eager physician to join a well-established, multi-disciplinary team alongside a strong support staff including advanced practice providers with the goal of providing high-level care.
NBIMC is a major teaching facility, and an affiliate of Rutgers University. The Newark Beth Israel Department of Emergency Medicine is home to an ACGME accredited 3-year Emergency Medicine Residency Program with 24 residents, and also offers a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship, EMS/Disaster Medicine Fellowship, Simulation Fellowship, and an Ultrasound Fellowship.
There is a separate Pediatric ED, RDU (Rapid Diagnostic Unit) staffed by ED Physicians, and a separate Fast Track/Intake area for lower acuity patients.
Another important aspect is that the RWJBH System is comprised of collaborative service lines of employed physicians and APPs - such as Hospital Medicine, Critical Care, Anesthesia, Radiology and Mobile Health. All of these services report up to the Chief Clinical officer and work together synergistically to improve efficiency, safety, quality and patient experience.
New staff will be required to meet the high standards of healthcare in accordance with policies adopted by the medical staff, hospital administration, and the Board of Trustees.

The physician will be opened to opportunities to educate, supervise, and cover residents. The Chair of Emergency Medicine will practice within the department and oversee all clinical activities and provide leadership and support for all academic actions at Newark Beth Israel Center. The Chair will also serve as a faculty member of a strong academic training program, create policies that drive improvements in quality and safety, and continue to grow the robust emergency medicine department at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Requirements:
- Strong clinical leader with experience driving improvements in quality and safety
- Commitment to academic excellence including prior experience in resident education and clinical research.
- At least 5 years of academic leadership experience
- Board certification in Emergency Medicine
- All candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey
- Candidate should have exceptional interpersonal skills, strong clinical background, and keen understanding of how to drive and maintain clinical quality standards.
- Preferred academic clinical background
NJ Pay Transparency:
The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $350,000 to $480,000 per year.
The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience
