History
After thirteen years in the private practice of pediatrics in the affluent Northside area of Atlanta, Dr. Bill Warren had a desire and sensed a call to engage in the fulltime healthcare of Atlanta’s neediest residents. He began working in August of 1995 at the Medical Clinic of the Techwood Baptist Center located within the Clark Howell and Techwood Housing Communities. At the time of Dr. Warren’s arrival, adult medical care was the only service this clinic provided. Dr. Warren added pediatric, dental, and counseling services and upgraded the lab and pharmacy. He also incorporated hearing and vision screening. The staff included Dr. Warren and a nurse coordinator plus over 70 volunteer physicians, dentists, nurses, counselors, receptionists, pharmacists, and others. In 1998, a new entity, the Good Samaritan Health Center, was created with the goal of providing comprehensive healthcare to Atlanta’s neediest citizens. The site was purchased in May and renovations, provided by Seibert & Son under the direction of Meadows & Ohly, were completed in December. The Center opened for services on January 4, 1999.
