MARTA is the 9th largest public transportation system in the US and North America operating bus, rail, and paratransit service for more than 430,000 passenger trips every week day. MARTA is primarily funded by a 1% sales tax levied by our member jurisdictions - the City of Atlanta, Clayton, and DeKalb counties.

MARTA is vital to the success of metro Atlanta's economy, the preservation of our environment and the quality of life in our region. According to a University of Georgia study, MARTA is responsible for about $2.6 billion in economic activity every year.

Company History

MARTA was created in 1965 to provide safe, convenient and reliable transit service for the Metro Atlanta region.

AWARDS & RECOGNITION:

For over 25 years, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority has been serving the community; not only through transportation and environmental challenges, but also through community and charitable efforts. The Charity Club has raised an estimated $600,000 annually from both employee donations and volunteer efforts, making MARTA employees one of Atlanta's major contributors for both Atlanta and surrounding communities. MARTA's Charity Club is responsible for linking employees to non-profit organizations and resources that provide goods and services to the socio-economically disadvantaged. The Charity Club prides itself in providing the metro Atlanta community with over 6,000 hours of community service through food and shelter initiatives.
