MARTA is the night largest transit system in the U.S. and North America that provides, bus, rail and mobility services for the elderly & disabled. MARTA’s service population is 1.65 million in the City of Atlanta, Fulton and Dekalk Counties. MARTA provides service for nearly half a million passenger boarding’s each weekday. MARTA operates 600 buses with 132 bus routes covering 1000 route miles per day. MARTA’s mobility service operates 175 lift-vans. MARTA operates 338 rail cars in 38 stations on 48.1 miles of rail. MARTA provides direct access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with a rail station that drops off right inside the terminal.
Company History
MARTA Operates an award winning Transit Oriented Development program, which encourages commercial, residential and retail development around rail stations to increase transit ridership. The program includes Lindberg City Center – it’s a nationally recognized flagship TOD.
MARTA was the first ever transit system to be designated as the “Official Provider of Transportation” for the Olympic Games. During the 17 days of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, more than 25 million passengers (1.5 million passengers a day) utilized MARTA.
For over 25 years, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority has been serving the community; not only through transportation and environmental challenges, but also through community and charitable efforts. The Charity Club has raised an estimated $600,000 annually from both employee donations and volunteer efforts, making MARTA employees one of Atlanta's major contributors for both Atlanta and surrounding communities. MARTA's Charity Club is responsible for linking employees to non-profit organizations and resources that provide goods and services to the socio-economically disadvantaged. The Charity Club prides itself in providing the metro Atlanta community with over 6,000 hours of community service through food and shelter initiatives.
