Title: Southern Nevada Communications & Advocacy Organizer
Job Status: Full-time, exempt
Reports to: Communications Director and the Digital Media Manager
Salary Range: Annual salary of $48-50,000

Nevada Conservation League (NCL) is the political voice of Nevada’s conservation community. We advocate for sound conservation policies, organize and train conservation leaders and advocates, work to increase civic engagement, educate and endorse candidates for public office, and hold elected officials and decision-makers accountable for the conservation and environmental issues we work on: climate, clean air, clean water, protecting our public lands and open spaces, and public health and livability. The NCL family of organizations includes Nevada Conservation League, a 501(c)(4) organization, Nevada Conservation League Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization; and Nevada Conservation League Political Action Committee, our political arm that directly helps elect pro-conservation candidates win office.
Position Summary
NCL is looking for a creative and energetic Communications & Advocacy Organizer to help the organization deepen and build relationships in Nevada, through policy advocacy, online organizing, and story banking. The Communications & Advocacy Organizer will work closely with the Communications Director and the Digital Media Manager around strategies that include in-person events and outreach, building the capacity of Nevada’s conservation community to participate in advocacy activities and actions during legislative session, PUC consumer sessions, and Clark County County Commission meetings; and help provide leadership, support, and coordination for coalitions associated with NCL and NCLEF conservation campaigns. During election years, team member will work with NCL’s political staff to develop additional programs to support NCL-supported candidates during elections. Strong preference for Spanish-speaking candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Develop organic, creative content (including digital/social media copy, graphics, videos, and other media) that furthers the organization’s mission and engages all levels of NCL membership.
Organize online support.
Help develop and maintain an all-volunteer digital response team ready to use social media to support the organization’s priorities.
Create online petitions using guidance from the Communications Director and Digital Media Manager and deploy them through digital platforms, including email, social media, text messages, and websites.
Follow trends, current events, and partners on social media and, when appropriate, identify opportunities to engage.
Recruit and train volunteers to implement digital campaigns, orchestrate relational organizing events, and other volunteer activities, including writing and giving testimony on behalf of the organization
Lead story banking efforts by engaging community members through 1 on 1s, capturing and amplifying their stories to empower them as advocates and potential spokespeople.
Identify and participate in relevant events or digital forums on behalf of the organization to build relationships and increase visibility.
Qualifications
Strong background in copywriting, content creation, and social media management.
Strong organizational, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Every Action baseline knowledge
Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
In-depth knowledge of how to use major social media platforms
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work flexibly in a fast-paced environment
Strong verbal communication skills
Experience creating high-quality graphics
Interest in clean energy, climate, conservation, and related issues
Spanish speaking strongly preferred
Working Conditions
This position is based in Southern Nevada, and the employee will work remotely, with some travel and event presence required. Work is typically performed while sitting at a computer screen for extended periods. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts when working with office machines. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. This position requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions with exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people. Reliable transportation is required. Some evening and weekend hours are required; the workload will be more than 40 hours per week during some periods.
