Description
Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) is hiring a Lead Building Engineer responsible for the operational integrity, maintenance,
and safety of GPB’s mission-critical facility in midtown Atlanta. The Lead Building Engineer oversees a team of technicians,
contractors and vendors to ensure near 100% uptime for a 24/7 broadcast television and radio environment; responsible for
the upkeep and enhancement of the facility and ensures all facility systems operate smoothly and meet GPB standards. This
role will oversee/perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and proactive facility planning; manage vendor
contracts/relationships, coordinate project activities, and ensure all maintenance activities align with regulatory standards.
The Lead Building Engineer will work with the Chief Technology Officer and/or Chief Financial Officer. GPB is a statewide dual
licensee comprised of 9 PBS television stations and 22 NPR radio stations that broadcast across the state of Georgia.
Candidate Responsibilities:
Oversee mission-critical systems including UPS, generators, ATS/Switchgear and CRAC units.
Manage environmental controls for mission-critical spaces including datacenters and studios.
Acts as the primary responder and SME for Building Management System and Fire Life Safety systems.
Develops and implements Method of Procedure documentation for maintenance activities in mission-critical systems to
mitigate risk of accidental outages/service interruptions.
Oversees the maintenance of the building structure, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire, elevator, fleet, and all
other related facility infrastructure systems according to established energy conservation and preventive maintenance
programs.
Conducts regular facility inspections, prepares reports on building conditions, and recommends necessary actions.
Provides support for after-hours building needs and activities as requested and oversees installation, inspections, repairs,
troubleshooting and daily maintenance of building infrastructure and facility equipment;
Manages housekeeping, landscaping and space management activities.
Maintains and performs basic repairs on station vehicles, such as replacing wipers and inflating tires; performs minor
maintenance and general services in building upkeep, fixture assembly, and small office equipment repair.
Works with engineering department to maintain facilities AutoCAD files, blueprints, and historical building information.
Works closely with CTO to develop a capital plan.
Maintains functional knowledge of building systems, construction trades, procedures and processes.
Ensures OSHA compliance and develops building SOP and any other related documents and policies.
Must be able to explain complex or technical failures/issues to non-technical stakeholders during high-pressure
situations.
Manages department’s budget and makes recommendations for budget efficiencies.
Assists in setup for event needs for internal and external customers.
Responsible for overseeing shipping/receiving operations.
Serves as a back-up to department staff as needed and must be able to balance multiple assignments simultaneously.
Performs additional or related duties as assigned or required.
Candidate Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Facilities, Operations Management or related field is preferred or any equivalent combination of
education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Minimum 10 years in commercial building engineering. Some experience in a critical environment (datacenter,
hospital, media/broadcast facility, etc.) is preferred.
Technical proficiency: Expert understanding of electrical redundancy, chilled water loops and life safety systems is
necessary for success.
Certifications/Licenses: Journeyman Electrician or HVAC Master is preferred.
Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license; commercial driver’s license is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office required; and familiarity with AutoCAD (or similar documentation software) and/or the
ability to read building system schematics and floorplans is preferred.
First Aid/AED certification and ability to push, pull or carry up to 25 lbs.
Ability to manage facility projects using independent judgment and personal initiative.
Strong oral and written communication and excellent customer service/interpersonal skills.
Aptitude for organizing tasks, managing time, prioritizing projects, sound judgment, tact, and courtesy.
Excellent rapport with team members and supervisory/mentoring experience is a plus.
Ability to work some evenings, weekends, holidays, and on call to support emergencies in a 24x7x365 environment when
necessary.
